RCA students present year end Christmas program
Students at Rhea County Academy shared the spirit and truth of Christmas at their annual holiday celebration on Thursday, December 17 held at Grace Bible Church. In welcoming the audience to the performance, RCA music teacher, Katie Warren said that she and the students had looked for a fun, creative way to show the true message of Christmas.
The evening began with an original skit written by middle school students who imagined an account of the birth of Jesus with the help of 2015 media. The angel Gabriel facetimed Mary with the news of upcoming events. Actions in Bethlehem included a tweet from Joseph, “found an inn # please have a room”, shepherds taking a selfie before they left for the stable, and a text on social media announcing the discovery of the Christ child.
A second original skit by 9th – 10th grade boys allowed the audience to listen-in on a conversation among the Three Wise Men during their journey to search for the new King.
A white glove interpretive movement presentation by girls in grades 9-10 signed the words of “Mary, Did You Know?”.
A cast of 58 pre-K through 4th grade and 2 middle school students presented the musical, “Isaiah Jones and the Seekers of the Lost Christmas Treasure”. Isaiah (Bryce Beaton) was trapped in a video game where he attempted to master level 5 and gain the key to the treasure. Numerous cast members assisted him as he worked to “track down the truth.” His adventures led him to a secret bonus level, the manager, where he found the treasure and discovered in the cast’s finale, “Give it Away This Christmas” that the true treasure of Christmas is giving the truth of Christ’s love to others.
