Basketball Warriors play for SCAA South Region championship
The basketball warriors entered the SCAA South Region tournament as the regular season and reigning South Region tournament champion. Following a bye in the first round the Warriors faced Cleveland Christian in the semi-final game. Early in the first quarter of their semi-final game with Cleveland Christian, senior Jacob Sommers was forced to leave the game with a sprained ankle. This left the Warriors short-handed but they were able to hold on for a thrilling 2 point win behind 28 point by Jonathan Hostetler to advance to the South District championship game against Calvary Christian.
The Warriors entered the championship game against Calvary Christian without Jacob Sommers and with forward Matthias Sarrell nursing an ankle sprain. Early in the game the Warriors were able to build a 13 point lead behind 34 points by Jonathan Hostetler but a furious comeback by Calvary in the second half saw that lead evaporate with less than 2 minutes to play. The Warriors were never able to reclaim the lead and ended up with a 4 point loss to finish as the South District tournament runner-up.
Congratulations to the Warriors on a successful season (19-9) and good luck to them as they move on to play in the National Association of Christian Athletes national tournament.
